The winter weather is starting to kick in! There have been a number of storms that are cooling the rocks down and the mountain is starting to form a good snow base up top.
It appears we may be in for an El Niño weather pattern that brings more snow from the south west. We have been missing this for a number of years and all the indicators are good for this season.

New Snow Guns

Whakapapa Holdings WHL have purchased new high volume snow guns to this year. These run in warmer temperatures and can produce tons of snow very quickly.

Season Opening & RMCA big mountain clean up King Birthday Weekend

The season officially opens on Saturday 2 June! There will be snow in Happy Valley and potentially on the upper mountain!

The club is offering half price accommodation on members rates for anyone (non member friends too) staying at the club over Kings birthday so come to the mountain, bring some friends enjoy some time at the club, do some of the other walks around the mountain and maybe help with the big mountain clean up! All food and accomodation is included. We only ask that you bring something for pre dinner snacks to share. We have a Canteen refreshments special over the weekend, there are $1 per can for adults and 50c cans for kids! And the club grape juice is half price!

So why not come to the club for long weekend, join in the big mountain clean up. It’s over to you to decide how you do. And the worst case scenario. The clean up is postponed and you don’t walk the local trails because there is too much snow and you have to go skiing and riding instead!

If you are keen to help with the clean up and can make the weekend please click here to get special rates.

Fuel costs and ride share!

This year we will be asking everyone who is going to the mountain to offer our club members a ride when it’s possible to share costs. The fuel cost thanks to the Mango Mussolini in the good old USA have gone through the roof. For diesel it’s gone up from $1.50 to $3.80 past 5 weeks! We all know the price goes up like a rocket and comes down like a feather so we know it will impact our club. If you are coming to the club and can offer ride please let us know at the committee we are happy to help coordinate.

That’s about all at this stage. We believe it’s going to be cracker this season! We are looking forward to seeing you all at the club and for a great season ahead. If would be great to see you there!

If you have questions or feed back please contact us by phone or email committee@wssc.co.nz

See you on the slopes!
