AGM postponed to Weds 30th Sept 2026 @ 7.30pm online
The AGM has been postponed to give us a better financial picture of where the club is sitting for the season.
The message is simple. Please support the club. This is done, in three ways. Pay your subs, book to stay and go skiing and riding, and talk to your friends and colleagues about the club - encourage them to stay, and help find new members. Your club needs you, now more than ever!
Unfortunately, this is the same for a number of clubs, it is a combination of Covid lock downs, past poor ski field management by CEO Ross Copland at RAL, stupid decisions by the RSSA, in particular Jason Platt, Robert Krebs and Sam Carkson who loss us our life pass by voting down WHLs initial offer to save the field which included our life passes. DoCs poor management around forcing bookable parking and not allowing shuttles to operate from the bottom of the mountain, and poor management of key buildings like the Chateau, the staff accommodation houses they let fall apart in the Whakapapa village, and now limiting all parking at the bottom of the mountain to 180minutes but only in Winter. This created a perception that the ski fields has failed which is not true, add to this a series of low snow falls years, it has create an unwanted storm impacting all of us.
On the positive side for this year WHL and the team are doing a fantastic job, lead previously by Travis and now by Dave Mazey again with the excellent Steve Mananui. The staff have been been making snow flat out and are doing an excellent job at getting the field operational. The far right of the valley is excellent under Pinicales, the Knoll Ridge gut is full of light snow, the gondola laps and Rangitira are also brilliant. The West Ridge chair opened yesterday for the first time!

Is the snow perfect? No, but is there enough to have a great time? Absolutely!! We still have El Niño weather patterns continuing which means south westerlies and more snow. The last big dump a few days ago narrowly missed Ruapehu putting 1 metre of snow in places on to the Kaimanawa Ranges just to the east of Mt Ruapehu. So it will happen! The club still have a number of events coming such as the Fundraising dinner on the 12th of September! So please book in!
We are also creating a WhatsApp group for the club so you can find out the latest on the mountain, who is going, ride sharing, photograph postings and on field updated so you know what is happening and the latest conditions etc. You can join our WhatsApp group https://chat.whatsapp.com/HbHy5CH4vfLKicMUYTmKa3!
Again the message is simple we need you booking and staying at the club, chasing your friends to join! If we don’t do this, we could lose the club and it will close. What you have gained and what children have gained will be lost to the next generation.
