Join us on the Mountain!

The club has been around since 1949 and exists solely for the purpose of getting its members onto the mighty Ruapehu to do their stuff.

For Kids

Staying at the hut and learning how to shred the mountain with mates is unbeatable. Life long friends and epic memories made right here.

For Snow hounds

Sure the deep south gets more settled weather, but Whakapapa can’t be matched for size and terrain. Come get some magnificent Whakapapa gnar.

For Families

Staying at the hut is all about those memorable family holidays. There’s something unique about bringing the whole family to the hut, it’s lots of fun, even on the in-days!

A quick overview

What it's all about

The Club

We are a non-profit organisation run by club members. The club exists solely for the purpose of enabling those who have a passion for skiing and snowboarding to stay at the Whanganui Hut.

The Hut

We stay at the highest private residence in New Zealand (1792m). The Whanganui Hut is located right smack in the middle of Whakapapa ski-field. Ski-out, ski-in, enjoy!

Our Approach

We enjoy a ‘big family’ vibe at the Hut. We all take turns to cook dinner and do the cleaning (including kids). We eat dinner together. At the end of the day you’ll find us sitting around the fire, laughing at each other’s wipeouts, and enjoying each other’s company.

Contact Us

If you’re interested in joining the club, staying at the hut to check it out before you join, or just want a bit more information, feel free to send us a message.

Whakapapa is NOT operating a carpark booking system during the 2024 season, first-in-first-served, so don’t sleep in and get up there early!

The Bruce Road barrier may be closed depending on the weather or RAL’s carpark capacity. Check NZTA road status before you set out.
