We need to hold a quick Special AGM to approve an updated constitution, based on a new Incorporated Societies Act in New Zealand. We're not expecting this to be a long meeting, but we do need a minimum of 15 members to be there to vote - so we would love even if you can pop into the zoom meeting quickly, say "Hi" and cast your vote!

Why are we holding a Special AGM for WSSC?
|
The Whanganui Ski and Snowboard Club is currently incorporated under the 1908 Act. In 2022 the Government created a new Act, the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 which require those that are registered under the 1908 Act and wish to continue their registration as an incorporated society must change their registration to that of the new Act by 05 April 2026.

The new Act creates a modern format and the recommended constitution builder has been used to achieve this. New procedures include; methods for resolving disputes, recording consent where appropriate and keeping an interests register. Our current constitution is very comprehensive however this has provided the basis for a timely upgrade and an opportunity for a general tidy up.

What are the key changes to the WSSC Constitution?

The new constitution has been reviewed by Peter Brown, Lawyer. The following general areas in the Constitution have been upgraded.

- Membership – clarifying the types of membership and defining a Non-Active Member differently. This proposes a Non-Active member can remain connected to the club for up to five years.
- Broadening the role of the committee to included deciding what access or use various members may have to the clubs facilities.
- Removes the category of country members.
- Removes the requirement for meetings to be held within the Whanganui District and provides for meetings to be held electronically.
- Adds a few new statutory procedure requirements.
- Change the EOY Balance Date to 31 March.
